A new kind of cartridge cleaner
The DataPure model 3491E cartridge cleaner and retensioner cleans your tape cartridges and provides precise tension control to insure top performance and long life. Microprocessor control of tape motion insures tape drive like tension control. Automatically senses E-cartridges and reduces tension to value specified by IBM.

Here's how the cleaner/retensioner works
DataPure thoroughly cleans your tapes on both sides. The model 3491E provides vacuum assisted Tungsten Carbide Blade cleaning of the oxide side of the tape. In addition, fabric wipes clean both sides of the tape. This eliminates transfer of debris or contamination from the back side of the tape to the oxide side during storage.

Tape Acceptance
 Accepts all IBM and compatible half-inch cartridges. Models 3480, 3490 & 3490E.

Tape Cleaning and Retensioning

Vacuum-assisted cleaning blade and 2 fabric wipes, one of which is vacuum assisted, provide maximum removal of contamination and debris.

16 Character display for operator messages.

Operator message when fabric wipe and blade change required.

Blade and fabric wipes are simple to remove and replace.

Measures tape length and identifies short tapes.

Retensions tape to meet IBM approved specifications.

Sequentially loads, cleans and unloads up to 10 cartridges. This means one-half hour of unattended operation.

Automatically recovers from most error conditions. Maintains unit error log memory for improved maintenance.

Tape Handling

Hydrodynamic bearings in tape path minimize tape contact and friction. Just like IBM & compatible cartridge tape drives.

Tension transducer provides signal for microprocessor control of tape tension.
